Frequently asked questions
These are some of the most common enquiries we've received from our customers over the past few weeks. Hopefully they help to answer some of the questions you may have. Thanks for choosing Patisserie Valerie. Team PV
I have a birthday party on Monday, what delivery date should I choose?
The Saturday before. After your cake has been baked and decorated, we will freeze it and pack it with dry ice to help ensure it is delivered safely to you. This means it can be kept in the freezer until the evening before you want to enjoy it.
How quickly can you deliver my cake?
All of our cakes are hand finished and packed to order. The quickest we can deliver is next day but you must order before midday!
Our home delivery service runs from Tuesday – Saturday to most post codes in the UK. We do not currently deliver on Sundays, Mondays or Bank Holidays to enable our bakery to close and our bakers to have a break!
Please enter your postcode into the box on the cart page to confirm which days are available for your address.
Who will deliver my cake?
Your cake will be delivered by DPD Local. They will contact you the day before your requested delivery date to provide a unique tracking number time and a delivery time.
Do you offer safe delivery?
Yes, DPD Local will provide details of their arrangements in their confirmation email which will be based on the official guidance at the time
How will my cake be delivered?
After your cake has been baked and decorated, we will freeze it and pack it with dry ice to help ensure it is delivered safely to you. You will need to defrost it before enjoying so we recommend booking delivery one day in advance
How much is delivery (and why is it this price?!)
Our delivery charge is £9.95, no matter how far we have to drive and no matter which delivery day you chose. We selected our delivery partner based on the quality of their service and we think it is definitely worth paying a little extra for this service
How does Patisserie Valerie ensure my cake arrives in one piece?
After an extensive trial, we selected DPD Local as our logistics partner as they had the highest first time delivery success rates. We then developed a packaging system with DPD Local, specifically for fragile food items which should ensure it arrives safely.
Why do you freeze your cakes?
When we developed this new service, set ourselves the challenge of delivering cakes to every home in the UK that arrived tasting and looking as good as they did when they left the bakery.
We found that freezing the cakes after they've been baked and decorated locks in the freshly baked flavour and packing them with dry ice before dispatch ensures they doesn't get squished in transit. We subsequently discovered this is a trick French patisserie chefs have been using secretly for years!
How long can I keep my cake?
The cakes can be kept frozen for up to six months or for two days in the fridge once defrosted. When your cake arrives, please follow the important handling instructions. Please do not refreeze the cake once it has defrosted.
When can I eat it?!
Our cakes take c.3-4 hours to defrost at room temperature. For best results, our team recommends leaving your cake to defrost slowly overnight in the refrigerator.
Please note that we are currently operating with a reduced bakery team and are therefore currently offering the reduced home delivery range on our website
I'd like to order a bespoke cake?
As we don't have a full bakery team, we can't offer this service at the moment. However, we do plan to relaunch this service when our patisseries reopen. You are able to add bespoke inscriptions to any of our cakes on the cart page
Can I order afternoon tea?
Unfortunately we aren't able to offer afternoon tea deliveries at present until our patisseries reopen. A slice of our delicious carrot cake goes really well with homemade sandwiches and a cuppa though...
I really wish I coudld order your coffee?
We have a number of new online offerings in development so watch this space. We are also working really hard to reopen some of our patisseries as soon as possible so hopefully you won't have to wait too long!
Can I order a wedding cake?
As we don't have a full bakery team, we can't offer our wedding cake service at the moment. Please check back soon though as we will relaunch this service when our patisseries reopen

We took the very difficult decision to temporarily close our patisseries in March 2020 following guidance received from the government in relation to Covid-19.
Since then, we have been working behind the scenes to ensure we are able to reopen safely.
We took the first step in April when we brought a small number of bakers back to serve our online customers. Our bakery has always followed strict hygene standards and has implemented additional measures in line with revised official guidance. Since our relaunch, word has started to spread about our safe home delivery and each week we've been able to bring a few more bakers back to work which is fantastic.
The next stage will be to reopen a small number of patisseries with a limited range of favourites for click and collect or takeaway. The list of these patissereies is still being finalised but we expect to provide an update on our website in the next few weeks.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all our team members, our suppliers and our customers for supporting us during this period and we hope to welcome you back to your local patisserie soon.
If you aren't able to find the answer to your question, please feel free to use our enquiry form and we will aim to respond promptly during office hours.
